Helping the Donkeys of Gaza

Let’s not forget, among all the turmoil and war in Gaza affecting so many people, sadly animals are not being spared either. Many animals including donkeys have been injured, traumatised & abandoned with no food or water.

Last month, AAA added a new partner group who we will be supporting to help the donkeys affected by the war in Gaza.

Starting Over fights for animal rights, and its goal is to stop the abuse, enslavement, and trafficking of donkeys, and establish them as a protected species.

Currently, Starting Over are rescuing, caring for and rehabilitating rescued donkeys and horses from the Gaza war. AAA will be supporting Starting Over with funds to provide medicines, medical treatment and rescue.

Sharon Cohen who runs Starting Over, together with her dedicated team have been working around the clock rescuing, treating and providing safe shelter for hundreds of donkeys and horses evacuated from the conflict area.

The details received about the conditions of the animals rescued from Gaza are heartbreaking, given how much they have been doing to serve the country.

Main medical conditions seen in donkeys rescued from Gaza:

Legs injuries and conditions as a result of years of carrying extreme heavy weights, severe tendon problems, bone fractures, deformations, wounds, necrosis and amputations (as a result of tight ropes tied to their legs).

Also, severe back conditions and injuries as a result of the same root cause and blindness.

Main medical conditions in horses rescued from Gaza:

Much of the same injuries and conditions we see in donkeys are also present in horses: severe leg injuries as a result ofcarrying extreme heavy weights (bricks, sand, metal etc.)

Due to their severe state some of these animals are placed in separate stables or in a high needs area called the Hope Compound.

Words from Sharon Cohen on the ground in Israel: ‘It's scary here, but there is no barrier, we've already gotten used to living like this... When the situation gets more stressful, almost no volunteers come to help, so everything becomes more difficult... Many more animals also arrived from the Lebanese border, and we had to prepare to receive them.  The animals are also very afraid of the explosions...’

To assist the donkeys rescued from Gaza,  we need your help to raise $36,000.

Can you help us?

By donating to our Trees for Gaza Donkeys you will help both the donkeys of Gaza and our environment.

On 21 July, the AAA committee along with other AAA volunteers will be planting 3000 trees to raise $36,000.

If you live in Perth, WA, you can volunteer to plant a tree with us, otherwise you can make a donation starting from just $5 for a tree to be planted on your behalf. For each $5 donation we receive, we plant a tree. Donate to Plant a Tree for Gaza Donkeys here

Or you can make a straight out donation to our appeal here.
