Help in Suffering Nagaur Camel Treatment Camp
Help in Suffering (HIS) are one of the partner groups who benefit from the generous support from Animal Aid Abroad donors. With this aid, they recently helped many camels at the Nagaur Camel Treatement Camp.
Introduction: In Nagaur, a town in Rajasthan, there's a big event called the Nagaur Fair where people gather to trade animals like camels, horses, and more. Help In Suffering (HIS) organized a special camp during this fair from February 13th to 15th, 2024, to help sick camels. This was after 15 years such a camp was held, and it was a big deal.
Team: Our team included two vets, Dr. Abhinav Swami and Dr. Jitendar Jhingonia, and three helpers, Rajendra, Bhagwan Das, and Lalchand.
What We Did: We set up a tent among the camels and treated a total of 347 sick camels. Many of them had problems like stomach issues and wounds. We gave medicine to 246 camels to get rid of worms in their stomachs and advised their owners to do this every three month. We also helped with stomach problems like indigestion and diarrhea, which camels can get from changes in their food and stress during the fair.
Wound Care and Infections: Lots of camels had wounds, like sores from their saddles or injuries to their noses from pegs. We worked hard to treat these wounds and taught the owners about using safer plastic pegs instead of metal or wooden ones. We also treated 82 camels for skin infections like mange, which can make them very itchy and uncomfortable.
Keeping Camels Safe: Camels can get hurt on roads, especially at night when they're hard to see. So, we fixed reflectors on 96 camel carts to make them more visible and prevent accidents.
Educating Owners: We gave out 360 leaflets to camel owners to help them learn better ways to take care of their camels. These leaflets had pictures and simple explanations about things like wound care, using reflectors, and keeping their camels healthy.
Numbers: Here are some numbers from our camp:
Total Treatments: 347
Camels with Skin Infections: 82
Camels with Leg Problems: 24
Nose Pegs Given: 200
Camel Carts with Reflectors: 96
Worm Medicines Given: 246
Thank You: We want to say a big thank you to all the people who donated and supported us to make this camp possible.
Closing: Our camp was a big success, and we're proud to have helped so many camels. We hope our work will make life better for them and their owners in the future.
