Your Gifts in Action
Since October when our Gifts that Give project began, your donations through Global Giving have helped Animal Aid Abroad (AAA) fund gifts to improve many working animals’ lives in India, with far-reaching effects. These gifts have included plastic nose pegs, winter blankets, animal rescues, back padding and veterinary treatment.
Evidence of your funds in action include:
1. Our partner group in India, Help in Suffering, held a treatment camp for working camels in November, 2023, in Pushkar, Rajasthan. They saw many camels suffering from wounds caused by wooden or metal nose pegs and explained to owners why these are so damaging. Thanks to your donations, Help in Suffering issued free plastic nose pegs for working camels, which the owners were grateful to receive. These kinder nose pegs will certainly reduce nose wounds in working camels in future.
2. Another of AAA’s partner groups in India, Friendicoes, distributed 150 blankets for working equines in December thanks to our generous donors on Global Giving. These essential blankets will keep the animals warm on chilly days and cold winter nights. Friendicoes reported that parts of India have had some extreme cold spells recently, so these blankets funded by you will improve the welfare of these lucky horses and donkeys who received them.
3. With help from caring donors like you, partner group Friendicoes also rescued several working equines, including a pony with a severe lacerated wound on her back. The owner was no longer able to care for his animal, so she was taken to Friendicoes’ sanctuary and treated for her back wound. She will now live out her days in a safe environment and will be well looked after. Another pony was also rescued who had been abandoned in New Delhi. He was elderly and was found injured, lost, bewildered and starving. Thankfully, this dear pony can now remain in Friendicoes’ sanctuary and will receive all the love and care he deserves with support from your donations.
4. Working mules did not miss out on gifts either, as Friendicoes distributed back padding for these animals during a mule treatment camp in Kedarnath, India. During this treatment camp, they saw 1500 mules with back sores caused by improper padding, loose saddles and uneven terrain. They treated these mules by cleaning and dressing their wounds, administering antibiotics and painkillers, and giving each animal a tetanus vaccination. Friendicoes then issued 750 back pads to prevent the development of further saddle sores in mules who have to haul loads up and down mountains.
These crucial gifts for working animals were only possible thanks to your wonderful donations! You have helped to improve the lives and welfare of hundreds of working animals in India, and to rescue desperate animals who had been abandoned. We could not fund this important work without your support, so thank you again for caring about these often-forgotten and under-valued animals.
