Friendicoes-Seca Equine Program December 2023

AAA partner group Friendicoes do so much for the working animals in their region, with the help of AAA donors. Following is their Equine report for December 2023.

During December the team treated their usual range of health issues including the most common - colic.

Other issue included one horse who suffered from an abscess on the inner thigh which, left unattended, ruptured, causing a big laceration wound. The team cleaned and dressed the wound and administered antiseptics, antibiotics and painkillers, followed by regular dressing changes and follow ups.

A shoulder injury was sustained for one horse involved in a road accident causing a deep laceration. Once again the team treated the wound and followed up regularly. The wound is now almost fully healed and the team spoke to the owner as the set up for this horse as a marriage horse is not ideal, however this horse earns its owner his livelihood so he will not surrender the horse.

One other horse was injured when it fell on the road while pulling a cart, and yet another horse was suffering from backsores due to improper padding and friction. With all of these cases, the team aim to educate the owners to change the way things are done to try and avoid these types of issues and injuries.

The team also distributed 150 blankets to working animals to save them from being affected by the cold as the winter has been quite severe this year.

The Gurgaon Shelter received a new resident with the rescue of a pony in Delhi. The pony had an injured hindleg and was abandoned by the owner as it was no longer able to work.

Thank you to AAA donors for supporting groups like this and allowing them to treat and save as many animals as they do.
