TAHUCHA May 2023 report

The Tanzania Humane Charity (TAHUCHA)is one of AAA’s partner groups who benefits from the generous support of our donors.

In May 2023, the TAHUCHA team received an emergency call from a donkey owner whose concern was his two donkeys that were attacked by bees while tethered for grazing. One of the donkeys managed to escape by snapping the rope but the other did not manage to escape and was severely affected.

The team quickly attended both donkeys, and a thorough clinical examination was conducted. They found that the donkeys were severely affected on the nostril, mouth, tongue and around the eyes with swelling.

They treated the donkeys by administering antihistamine, hydrocortisone and meloxicam. Cold therapy was also applied on the skin to reduce swelling, and topically sodium bicarbonate and malt vinegar were applied.

The donkeys recovered within 14 days thanks to effective follow up and intensive veterinary care.
