Trees and Troughs Campaign - what was achieved in 2022 and the goals for 2023

The focus of this year's Trees and Troughs campaign will be to fund water troughs, tanks, piping and buckets for working animals in India (Delhi), South Africa (Thaba’nchu) & Zambia (Livingstone).

For our partner group Friendicoes in India the following is required:

  • In Delhi, at Turkman gate, where over 300 equines (ponies, horses and donkeys) pass through as it's in old Delhi, we will fund one Syntax tank (Capacity 2,000 litres) for water storage and piping. This water tank will service hundreds of working animals that pass by and horse or donkey owners will bring buckets to fill them up and take the water to their animals.

  • In Gurugram, Haryana, six cement water troughs will be installed at various locations where working animals pass or work eg. the wholesale fruit market. These troughs will be filled by the Friendicoes water tanker daily.

  • At other points where water is available but far away from the stands we need to get 100 buckets to begin with.

  • 30 new troughs at the Friendicoes Sanctuary for 178 equines in total, donkeys, mules and ponies, and horses.

In South Africa & Zambia, plans have begun to put in water troughs at the market (Livingstone) and the town square (Thabu’nchu), pending approval from the local municipality.
