Friendicoes Update - May 2023

Our amazing donors help us support the work of Friendicoes in India, and this report covers their Equine program for the month of May 2023.

Being summer in India, once again the leading number of cases dealt with was that of colic. In these cases, providing the animal with plenty of fresh, clean water is crucial to their recovery, as well as the therapies and treatments that the Friendicoes vets provide.

The Friendicoes team also dealt with many cases of lacerations, caused by sharp fencing wire, road accidents and other unknown causes. Left untreated many of these wounds turn into abscesses and require much more intensive treatment and recovery times.

The team also treated a case of Babesiosis in which the horse was really suffering with high temperatures.

Part of the outreach program was to provide the community with access to mass deworming clinics and through the course of their work, they rescued a number of equines: a weak, emaciated pony, a pony that was unfit to work and surrendered by its owner, and a pony who was abandoned in a field for days before he was found and rescued.

Thank you to the paravets and Friendicoes team for all you do for the working animals in your area.
