Friendicoes February 2023 Report

The Friendicoes Equine clinic team had, as usual, a busy month in February. And once again, one of the most common ailments they came across was that of colic. This is always a big problem and it causes the animal to suffer greatly. Many owners, despite owning many horses, do not have the skills or knowledge to prevent and manage the condition. As a result, the Friendicoes team are considering implementing a colic first aid training course for local owners.

During the month, the team also dealt with various lacerated wounds caused by road accidents and sharp fencing wire, an abscess caused by a kick from another animal left to fester, and saddle sores caused by overloading and improper back coverings.

The month of February is marriage month, so many horse are being used in marriage ceremonies and as such, suffering from the above issues is always a result.

The Friendicoes team were able to distribute an impressive 600 keens to working animals, helping to prevent the back sores and injuries related to inhumane harnessing and overloading.

Thanks to Animal Aid Abroad supporters for funding the 600 keens and the medical clinics conducted by the Friendicoes medical team and para vets.
