Partner Group LAWCS - February update

In February, LAWCS team continued to carry out community education and medical clinics in neighbouring Guinea to help working donkeys, cows and bullocks. The Guinea villagers rely on animals for their livelihoods but humane ways to care for and work their animals is extremely poor. Thanks to AAA and their supporters this important outreach work continues and many villagers are starting to change their ways for the better.

One such community member is Mafanta. Mafanta is a single mother in Guinea who depends on her two donkeys for various agricultural and domestic activities to send her children to school and put food on the table for her family. Mafanta is one of those who was trained by LAWCS on donkey welfare, humane handling, and production of harnessing.

She has developed a personal love and relationship with her donkeys because of the LAWCS program. The program gives animal owners the opportunity to discuss, brainstorm, analyze and reflect on the plight of their animals and how they can take concrete actions to improve the health and welfare of the animals.

During the month, the LAWCS team treated 749 animals, and distributed 4 water troughs, 179 humane harnesses and soft back padding for 24 donkeys, funded by Animal Aid Abroad.
