Krishna - a rescue mule at Friendicoes

Meet Krishna, another of the recuse animals at Friendicoes and part of the AAA Working Animals Rescue Fund.

This poor mule was rescued from a brick kiln in Ballabgarh, Haryana in 2017. He had suffered severe wounds on his hock joint due to repeatedly kicking the cart he was supposed to be pulling. It happens when the horse is suffering some kind of discomfort in pulling the cart and is showing a resistant reaction towards being made to do it. There were saddle sores on his back which may also have been the cause of his pain due to constant chafing leading to him not wanting to work. These hock joint wounds and his general state of health meant we had no choice left but to offer to buy him off his owner. So in exchange for a remuneration the owner surrendered the animal to us as he was unable to earn from him.

We named him Krishna (because the Hindu God Krishna is also known to have dark skin) and he has lived at the Friendicoes Sanctuary for the last 6 years. Krishna was 9 years old at the time of rescue pegging him at 15 years of age now. He is an easy, sweet animal and gives no trouble to anyone. He is one of our best behaved mules and belies the statement "as stubborn as a mule". Krishna is doing well and has no health concerns.
