Animal Nepal Dukuchhap Donkey Sanctuary - 2021 Report - where your support goes

The generous support of Animal Aid Abroad’s (AAA) amazing donors goes towards improving the lives of countless animals around the world. In Nepal, the support from AAA helps provide a safe and happy home for a number of rescued equines. These animals have been saved from a life of abuse, neglect and torturous working conditions. Following is an update on them and their life at the sanctuary.

“Despite the many uncertainties brought on by COVID-19, life inside our donkey sanctuary continues largely as normal. The only difference is that we have had to close the sanctuary to the public. We have however resumed our internship program where final year veterinarian students from HICAST learn about equine management, thus helping to train Nepal’s future generation of vets. Our animals also really enjoy the extra care and attention they receive from the interns.

This year, sadly we lost one of our donkeys Krishna. He was about 14 and he died suddenly during the night from suspected colic. Krishna was one of our friendliest donkeys and he was especially popular with visitors. Krishna is greatly missed, especially by his best friend Fudge. With our other animals, aside from some minor issues, there has been no cause for concern and they are all doing very well.

Animal Nepal’s donkey sanctuary is the only one of its kind in Nepal providing a refuge for working animals rescued from a life of abuse and neglect. Animal Aid Abroad’s support has been crucial in ensuring the continuity of this essential and life-saving work. We would like to thank all AAA sponsors and we look forward to another visit from AAA in the very near future.
