Camel Rescue Centre - Bassi - September Report

The Bassi Camel Rescue Centre (CRC) have sent us the following update for September:

“Camels are calm most of the time, but when they become aggressive they become very aggressive. Especially the male camels show this tendency. A few days ago a camel owner Vikram from village Jamwaramgarh brought his camel to us. His camel was badly bitten on the head by another camel. There was a deep wound between ear and eye. The wound was very painful, and the camel was eating much less due to the pain. When he came to us, we cleaned the wound aseptically. Antibiotics, painkillers etc were administered. It is the season of flies and maggots so the owner was advised to keep the wound clean and protect it from flies. Oral medicines were also given for further use at home.

There was also the case of a camel from village Roop pura that was standing under a tree, eating his food. As it is rainy season, he was very troubled from the flies. All of a sudden, because of flies, he moved his head quickly and hit the iron plate of a tractor standing nearby. He was wounded deeply. His muscles and a vein of the lower mandible were injured badly and started bleeding. The owner immediately called the CRC. It was an emergency so Dr. Jitendar rushed to him. The wound was repaired surgically under anesthesia. The camel was kept on a soft and liquid diet for a few days. The owner was advised to keep the wound clean and take care of the camel.”
