Tanzania Humane Charity (TAHUCHA) Assist Abused Donkey

Our partner group, Tanzania Humane Charity (TAHUCHA), recently assisted a donkey with a large abscess on her left scapular region. Unfortunately, this serious wound was caused because the poor donkey had been beaten with a sharp object to force her to run.

Because the donkey’s owner had previously received training from TAHUCHA on humane animal handling, he called both TAHUCHA and the police. The donkey rider responsible was arrested and held for 14 days. He was banned from riding donkeys for a year to demonstrate that cruelty towards animals is unacceptable.

The TAHUCHA team treated the donkey by providing painkillers and antibiotics, surgically removing necrotic tissue, then cleaning and dressing the wound. The donkey was prescribed rest and TAHUCHA visited her daily until the wound had healed and the donkey was fully recovered.

In addition to this harrowing case, TAHUCHA also treated an incredible 1112 other working donkeys during June for various health issues and educated 74 owners on animal care and welfare.

Thank you, TAHUCHA, for all of your hard work that is improving the lives and welfare of working donkeys in Bukombe, Tanzania.
