Blankets, Advanced Medical Care and a New Rain Shelter for Afghan’s Working Animals
In November, AAA supporters made a profound impact by helping Nowzad’s Working Animal Program deliver care and support to animals in Afghanistan, improving their well-being in the face of challenging conditions.
Here’s how your contributions translated into help for animals:
193 horses and 13 donkeys treated:
From wound care to addressing illnesses like respiratory issues and colic, each animal received compassionate attention.
68 animals dewormed:
A critical programme in rural areas to combat common issues such as colic, gastrointestinal discomfort, and skin conditions.
First-ever portable x-ray use:
Dr Reshad performed the first in-field x-ray on an injured animal, a great achievement for veterinary care in Afghanistan.
25 horses received hoof trimming:
This vital care was provided by Nowzad’s farrier to prevent discomfort and maintain mobility.
47 blankets distributed:
As temperatures in Kabul plummeted, horses and donkeys were provided warmth to protect them from the harsh cold.
Education and outreach:
Equine welfare and husbandry leaflets were shared with local communities to improve the long-term care of working animals.
Additionally, the mobile clinic attended to a variety of cases across rural and urban communities:
Emergency care: Animals suffering from wounds, limping, malnourishment and diarrhoea were treated with tailored medical interventions.
Outreach to livestock: Cows, calves, and sheep also received care, including treatment for bloating, abscesses, and malnourishment.
Rain Shelter
Thanks to your incredible support, a large open-walled shelter has been built in the Deh Sabz district of Afghanistan. This essential structure provides working horses and donkeys with much-needed protection from the rain, offering comfort and relief in their challenging environment.
Each action taken by Nowzad was made possible through the generosity of supporters like you. Together, you are improving the lives of animals that need it most, one treatment, blanket and outreach and rescue at a time.
