LAZAWO Oct Update - Successful Clinic Provided Care for 402 Donkeys in Muhoji

Our amazing project partner, LAZAWO, conducted a major clinic in Muhoji village, providing care for 245 new donkeys.

Donkeys were treated for various conditions including wounds, trypanosomiasis, tick infestation, eye infections, worm infestation and colic.

An additional 157 donkeys received follow-up or new care on non-clinic days, bringing the total number of donkeys treated to an incredible 402!

The team dressed and treated wounds on donkeys during major clinics and home visits, using materials and medications such as Albamycin (wound spray), antibiotics (Pen-Strep), antiseptic (10% povidone-iodine), examination gloves, gauze, and syringes with needles.

A total of 120 donkeys were vaccinated against rabies and tetanus to prevent these diseases.

All new donkeys seen in the village this month were dewormed.

Farmers received guidance on proper handling and care of donkeys to improve animal welfare. Education sessions were held during treatments and at major clinics in the village.

Challenges

Farmers live in scattered areas, requiring transport to reach more individuals in need of services.

Ongoing drought forces donkeys to travel long distances to collect water for both human and animal needs.

Insufficient vaccines to meet the increasing number of donkeys being seen at clinics.

The next clinic will be held on November 8th and 9th.

Every treatment, wound dressed and lesson shared with local farmers helps the animals lead healthier, more comfortable lives.

We are so thankful to our supporters whose donations help assist our partners like LAZAWO, operate in areas where donkeys are in need of compassion and care.
