Donkey Welfare Clinic in Masinono Village, Treatment to 257 Donkeys
Thanks to your donations, hundreds of donkeys received medical care and their owners gained valuable knowledge to improve their animals' welfare. Together, we are creating a brighter future for working animals in need.
The LAZAWO team recently conducted a major clinic in Masinono village, providing treatment to 257 donkeys for various conditions, including wounds, trypanosomiasis, tick infestation, eye infections, worm infestations, and colic. Of these, 149 were new cases, while 108 donkeys received follow-up care from previous clinics or weekly para-veterinary visits.
Key Activities
Wound Management:
The team treated and dressed wounds using Albamycin (wound spray), penicillin-streptomycin antibiotics, povidone iodine antiseptic, and essential supplies such as gloves, gauze, and syringes. In August, 42 donkeys in the area were recorded with wounds, but during this clinic, only 27 cases required treatment, reflecting a positive reduction in wound prevalence.Vaccinations:
A total of 94 donkeys were vaccinated against rabies and tetanus, crucial in preventing these life-threatening diseases.Deworming:
All new donkeys encountered during this visit were dewormed to address parasite infestations.Education for Farmers:
Donkey owners received guidance on proper handling and care practices to improve their animals’ welfare. Education sessions were conducted both during treatments and at the clinic site.
Achievements and Successes
Vaccinated 94 donkeys against rabies and tetanus.
Farmers expressed confidence in and appreciation for the medical care provided by the LAZAWO-AAA project, leading to increased demand for the program in neighbouring villages.
Managed and reduced the incidence of wounds caused by work-related activities and bird attacks.
Challenges
The scattered settlement patterns of farmers necessitate reliable transportation to reach all those in need of services.
Ongoing drought conditions force donkeys to travel long distances for water, impacting their health and welfare.
Limited vaccine supplies remain a constraint as clinic attendance grows.
This incredible impact is made possible because of our AAA supporters. Thank you for standing with us to improve the lives of working donkeys and their communities.
