Hundreds of Working Equines Receive Vet Care + Three More Animals Rescued

We are incredibly grateful for your heartfelt donations for working animals. Without your support, AAA could not fund the critical programs being run by our partner groups overseas.

One such group is Friendicoes in India. Through their mobile equine clinic, they treated no less than 850 working animals throughout February.

They vaccinated 280 working equines and dewormed 378 others. Their farrier also provided 80 animals with hoof care.

Some of the cases seen in February are outlined below:

Colic

Friendicoes saw 15 equines with colic. Dehydration is commonly a cause of this painful condition. The vet team treated each of these animals with painkillers and fluid therapy.

Injured Horse

A horse was attacked by a stray bullock. The horse sustained a deep, penetrating wound on his abdomen. The wound was sutured and antibiotics, painkillers and a tetanus vaccine were administered.

Dog Bite Wound

A stray dog attacked a donkey on her abdomen. The team sutured the wound and administered a rabies vaccination.

Road Accident

A horse was hit by a car and sustained a lacerated wound on her chest. The vet team cleaned and dressed the wound thoroughly. They also gave her antibiotics, painkillers and a tetanus vaccine.

Lacerated Wound on Left Hind Leg

This horse met with sharp fencing wire, resulting in a leg injury. Friendicoes cleaned and dressed the wound and administered antibiotics, painkillers and a tetanus vaccine.

Lacerated Wound on Right Hind Leg

A horse slipped while being unloaded from a truck and injured her right hind leg. The wound was carefully cleaned and dressed by the vet team. The horse was given antibiotics, painkillers and a tetanus vaccine.

Chemical Injury

An owner applied a chemical to his unfortunate horse’s leg, severely damaging the skin. Friendicoes cleaned the area with antiseptics and dressed the wound.

In February, Friendicoes rescued three lucky animals.

Mule

An elderly, abandoned mule was rescued from Moolchand Flyover in Delhi. He is now being well looked after at Friendicoes’ sanctuary.

Mare

A mare was rescued from a riding club in Gurgaon. She had joint problems and was surrendered by her owner.

Foal

A one-month-old foal was left abandoned on the road in Chatarpur, Delhi. She has now been rescued and is safe and sound at the sanctuary.

Friendicoes have five hard-working paravets who completed follow-up visits for 473 equines last month. They provide basic medical and wound care for these animals to ensure they heal completely.

You have helped improve the lives of 850 working equines in India in February alone. Together, we are creating a different world. A world where care, compassion and respect are given to all animals. Thank you again for supporting this vital work.
