Alleviating Suffering for Camels in India
With your wonderful support, the Camel Rescue Centre (CRC) in Bassi provided 260 camels with veterinary care in February. The following cases stood out in particular:
Case 1
The CRC team received a call one evening from a herd owner named Ramkishan. He was concerned about one of his camels who had given birth but the placenta had not come away. Ramkishan had also noticed a bloody discharge.
This was considered an emergency, so the vet team drove to the camel immediately. Dr. Himanshu removed the placenta manually. He then administered medications to stop the bleeding and prevent infection. The camel was given fluid therapy too.
Ramkishan was very grateful to the team for helping his camel.
Case 2
While visiting a village called Kanota, CRC saw a camel who was suffering from continuous itching and restlessness. He had also lost his appetite. The vet team diagnosed mange, which is the most common problem seen in camels and spreads quickly between animals. The team administered treatment and instructed the owner to regularly apply a medicated skin ointment as well.
In February, the CRC team also treated eight working horses for issues including colic, worms and wounds. In addition, they issued 12 plastic nose pegs for camels. These are much safer and gentler than the traditional wooden or metal nose pegs.
Thank you so much for your compassion for animals and generous donations. With your help, many camels in India are now living healthier lives free from pain and distress.
