Friendicoes' May Update - Critical Animal Aid and Abandoned Ponies Now Safe in Sanctuary

The summer has taken a toll on working animals in India. Friendicoes' Field Paravets have been treating cases of impaction colic, a painful condition often caused by extreme heat, lack of proper hydration and inadequate stabling.

They've also helped horses and ponies with lacerated wounds from sharp fencing wire; neglected saddle injuries leading to abscesses; and wounds sustained from sitting on hard or rocky surfaces.

Not only are they providing emergency medical care to horses suffering under the summer sun, but they're also undertaking heartwarming rescue missions for abandoned ponies.

Keep reading to see the impact you're helping Friendicoes’ achieve and the lifesaving work that unfolds.

Caring for animals who need medical attention

The Field Paravets provided vital medical care, including pain relief, fluid therapy, meticulous wound cleaning and dressing, antibiotics to combat infections, and tetanus vaccinations to prevent further complications. Sadly, many of these animals are in poorer health than usual due to a lack of available fodder. This underscores the importance of ongoing support for these essential services.

Distribution of soft keens

To prevent back sores and wounds in working animals, Friendicoes’ has also been distributing soft keens. This preventive measure will help to alleviate future suffering.

PONIES HAVE FOUND A SAFE HOME AT THE SANCTUARY

  • A pony injured in a road accident was surrendered by its owner and is now recovering at the Gurgaon shelter.

  • An abandoned pony found disoriented and dehydrated on a busy road is now safe at the shelter.

  • Another abandoned pony with injuries was rescued from near Okhla railway station.

  • A pony found abandoned in a residential complex is also safe at the shelter.

Tireless Efforts of Field Paravets

Friendicoes' dedicated Field Paravets have been providing medical assistance to a significant number of working animals across several regions. We are grateful for their hard work and expertise.

  • Sakir (Agra): Aided 125 working animals with medical care

  • Salman (Bharatpur): Extended medical assistance to 95 working animals

  • Nabab (Mathura): Provided medical care to 90 working animals
