Rescue and rehousing of donkeys update - Zambezi Working Donkey Project, Zambia, Africa
Thanks to you, our partner, Zambezi Working Donkey Project (ZWDP) in Zambia, has been able to permanently rescue a number of donkeys from owners who deliberately injured them or through ignorance badly neglected them. Since the ZWDP team rescued them in December all but one are healing well. Sadly, Maphalo, one of the donkeys rescued, did not survive from his shocking mistreatment.
It broke our hearts!
These donkeys will now live in peace and care with ZWDP and no longer endure any further abuse, this has all been made possible because of your compassion.
Set
Set was severely and deliberately burnt on her back. Since coming under the care of ZWDP, the wound has been healing well following a strategic wound management plan.
1. Set, a few days after her rescue. 2. Set in February 3. Set and her foal, Candice. Sweet and friendly Candice was named in honour of our retiring newsletter and Facebook editor, Candice McLennan who we will miss very much. Candice has been with AAA since 2018 and worked tirelessly and with great efficiency with our Facebook and newsletter. 🤩
Kamuseka
Kamuseka was badly overworked and malnourished. On detachment, the ticks left wounds on her belly, armpits and on the skin around the medial canthus of her left eye.
Thankfully, her wounds have responded positively to treatment and are healing.
Lillian
Liilian was a victim of shocking animal abuse and she sustained wounds on her back and head. A lump was also found on the right side of her face, reported to have been caused by trauma. She is now handled with care as she is currently pregnant.
Black
Black, upon rescue, had a bad ox yoke wound which got infected. A firm nodular growth was also found on his right hip. Since being in the care of the ZWDP team, Black’s wounds are in their final stages of healing and the nodular growth on his hips has reportedly not progressed since.
Thank you for making such a difference with your selfless donation.
You have made possible for these rescued donkeys to improve in their condition, with wounds slowly healing and importantly, their overall mental, emotional & physical state also improving. This is evident by allowing the dedicated ZWDP team treat and heal them.
They are also routinely dewormed and dipped for parasite control and are regularly examined to ensure their health is progressing well.
