BlindLove Working Donkeys - January 2024 Report

The donations that AAA receives go towards helping partner groups around the world like BlindLove in South Africa who do a lot of work with working donkeys in Grahamstown. Following is their report for January 2024:

The year got off to a great start with our first donkey outreach being held on the 20th Jan 2024 as planned!

It was very well attended, with 30 donkeys being checked and treated! We were also lucky enough to have 2 beautifully looked after horses pop in!

Horses are uncommon in these disadvantaged areas, so their arrival caused quite a stir amongst the children, with everyone running over to see the beautiful big horses and get a chance to stroke them!

All the donkeys and horses that attended were dewormed, treated for ticks, hooves checked and cleaned out and any injuries cleaned and treated.

Being summertime there were literally hundreds of flies buzzing around the donkeys legs so we went through quite a lot of fly spray!!!

We were still busy making up our Jan batch of harnesess (which we will hand out in Feb ), but we did hand out our first batch of smaller humane donkey bridles and they fitted perfectly!

We also had some grooming brushes to hand out and had managed to take a big round 500 kg grass bale! It was wonderful to see all the kids enthusiastically brushing and grooming their donkeys and then getting going with the task of filling feed bags with hay to take home for their animals.

A couple of the donkeys and the 2 horses also munched happily on the hay in the hot sun.

It was a very positive day and the date for the next outreach was set for 24th Feb.
