Tanzania Humane Charity (TAHUCHA) Report - April 2023

In April 2023, with the support of AAA donors, the Tanzania Humane Charity (TAHUCHA) team conducted a World Veterinary Day week in collaboration with 15 intern vets from Sokoine University of Agriculture which ended on 29 April 2023. Here is the report:

Within a week of World Veterinary Day, we managed to treat 38 donkeys with equine trypanosomiasis, 18 donkeys with babesiosis, 3 donkeys with manges, 79 donkeys with wounds, 47 donkeys with hoof problems, 2 donkeys with dental problems, 10 castration of male donkeys, deworming of 231 donkeys, tetanus vaccination of 68 donkeys, 53 donkeys with eye problems and 2 donkeys with colic.

Alongside these treatments, 32 donkey riders and donkey owners were trained on humane donkey care in order to avoid causing injury to donkeys, especially wounds due to beating.

Blood samples were also collected from 171 donkeys for haemoparasites examination and they revealed that 38 donkeys had equine trypanosomiasis and 18 donkeys with babesiosis.

TAHUCHA extends it’s sincere appreciation to Animal Aid Abroad supporters for helping us to improve donkey welfare in the Bukombe district.
