Tanzania Humane Charity (TAHUCHA) March Report 2023

Donations to Animal Aid Abroad help our partner groups provide veterinary care to working animals in some of the most challenging locations. During March, the Tanzania Humane Charity (TAHUCHA) attended a donkey with swelling at the hindquarter. The team immediately diagnosed by aspiration and revealed that there was pus accumulation in the swelling. The area was cleaned aseptically and the incision made, with 10 litres of pus drainage from the swelling.

Then donkey was administered with painkiller, antibiotics and prescribed to rest for 3 weeks until recovery. Unfortunately, the cause of swelling is beating.

Also during March, TAHUCHA received two fourth year vet students to volunteer for three days while they are on Easter break.

These young vets are Jenny Kapongo and Edwina Kokugonza Mushombozi. They learnt about donkey humane handling, donkey infectious and non infectious diseases, as well as management for well nourished and healthy donkeys. They attended and treated donkeys at the Donkey Clinic at Kakoyoyo villages and also trained community champions on proper donkey handling.

They expressed their sincerely acknowledgement to AAA for your heartfelt support of TAHUCHA for the sake of improvement to donkey welfare in Bukombe.
