Help in Suffering - Camel Rescue Centre Report - February 2023

AAA partner group, Help in Suffering (HIS) have sent us two case studies from their work during February 2023 at the Camel Rescue Centre (CRC). HIS camel clinic team lead by Dr Abhinav, thank Animal Aid Abroad and their supporters for funding their vital outreach clinics to help injured and sick working camels.

Case-1

One morning we received a call from the village Ratanpura. The owner of a camel, Heeralal, said that his camel’s nose got injured by a tin shed. We understood the seriousness of the condition and travelled there at once. We found upon examination that some of the veins were ruptured and the bleeding was profuse.

Dr. Jitendar decided to repair it surgically. Under sedation the wound was repaired with sutures. Painkillers and antibiotics were administered. Antiseptic ointments and oral medicines were also given for further use.

The owner was very happy as the bleeding had stopped and the camel looked well again. He thanked our team for the immediate help.

Case-2

On another day in February a camel herd owner, Sharwan Kumar called us from village Khatipura. His camel had been unable to stand up for a few days. Dr. Jitendar and his team went to his place and provided the camel with treatment. The camel did not recover after three days so then we decided to rescue the camel and admit it to the Camel Rescue Centre in Bassi.

With our hydraulic van, we brought the camel to CRC and started the treatment, massage of legs and assisting it to stand with the help of a pulley. After the continuous work by our camel team, now the camel calf has started standing up. He tries to walk slowly. We hope he will run soon and forget everything about this traumatic time.
