Animal Nepal 2022 in summary

2022 was a difficult year for the Animal Nepal team at the sanctuary as we lost five of our beloved residents – Chandani, Fudge, Kush, Lava and Noby. All five had been with us for many years, with Chandani being the youngest and was born at our sanctuary in 2014. We lost her mother Puffin to a prolonged illness in the previous year. Chandani was young, healthy and full of life and her passing came as a great shock to us. Similarly, Lava one of our miniature donkeys also died suddenly from colic. Kush, Noby and Fudge passed after battling illnesses caused by blood protozoa.

Many of our animals are now getting older and in addition to their difficult start to life along with battling long-term health issues, we are painfully aware that most of them will have shorter lives than that of the normal life expectancy of equines. In this time, we have also learnt that donkeys are very sensitive animals, tend to be deeply affected by the death of their companions and are prone to depression, which can eventually lead to their own deaths.

Despite suffering such a huge loss, we are happy to have been able to give them a comfortable and happy life in their time with us, thanks to the ever-present support of Animal Aid Abroad and their sponsors.

We would like to thank our partner Animal Aid Abroad and sponsors for their support which has enabled us to provide the best care for our rescued animals in our sanctuary, which is the only one of its kind in Nepal.

In a country, where these hard working animals continue to be neglected and abused, we are grateful to be able to do this work to help animals in need and give them a better life where they do not have to live in fear or hardship.
