Friendicoes August 2022 Update

The Friendicoes Seca Equine Program August 2022 Report outlined the teams activity and unsurprisingly, one of the top conditions they treated in the field was Colic. Symptoms of this condition include dehydration, impaction, and poor gut motility. To treat animals suffering with this ailment, the Friendicoes team administer pain killers and fluid therapy, as well as laxatives, with a directive for plenty of fresh water, multiple times a day. This can be a challenge due to the poor availability of clean drinking water in the area.

The team also treated lacerated wounds caused by sharp fencing wires, a fractured lower jaw due to a road accident with a truck, a hoof avulsion, also caused by a road accident, and a lacerated head wound, also caused by a road accident with a truck. The team also came across many horses in need of teeth rasping and so this made up a fair proportion of their work this month.

It is with thanks to our donors and supporters that we can support the work of fantastic organisations such as this.
