Friendicoes report - May 2022
Friendicoes in India have sent us their report for May 2022, and they’ve attended a number of different cases, and different types of animals.
As part of their equine outreach program, they dealt with many cases of colic, due to the intense heat and scarcity of water at this time of year. They also treated a number of lacerations and wounds caused by fencing wire or metal scraps in the junk yards where some horses are kept.
There was also a dog bite wound on a young foal which was treated with antiseptics, antibiotics, painkillers and vaccination. Unfortunately bites from feral dogs are becoming more common. Feral dog packs hunt calves, old cows, foals or injured ponies in rural area. Friendicoes tries to sponsor pay/neuter programs in these areas, but are hampered by a lack of funding.
Buckets were distributed to working animal owners to help them collect drinking water and supply to the animals. This is so important with the hot temperatures and the lack of drinking water around. Friendicoes have also offered financial support to those who need it in order to supply fresh drinking water to their animals. Friendicoes thanks AAA donors and supporters for helping them to give this gift of life for these animals and their owners.
Friendicoes also rescued a number of animals this month. A camel that was being taken to slaughter because it was suffering from a severe skin condition was rescued and brought to the Gurgaon shelter. Two mules were also rescued who had been abandoned at one of the team’s spay/neuter clinics overnight. The mules were very docile and partially blind. They are now resettled at the Gurgaon shelter. Another rescue was that of a mare who was used for marriage processions, but sustained a laceration on the front leg and as such was abandoned. The horse was very malnourished, either left to starve or the owner could not afford to feed it and so abandoned it.
Thank you to Friendicoes for all the hard work you are doing to help these animals in need.
