Tanzania Humane Charity February 2022 Case Study

During February 2022, the Tanzania Humane Charity (TAHUCHA) team attended a donkey with severe bleeding from a wound on the right shoulder. The owner Mr Bahemu informed us the donkeys were in the forest pulling carts with logs and suddenly two unknown people appeared who started to cut the donkey. The donkey riders, in order to save their lives decided to run away. The donkey struggled a lot and finally managed to escape while severed injured by machete.

TAHUCHA attended the donkey by providing painkillers, controlling the bleeding, giving a Tetanus vaccination, suturing of wound edges and administering of antibiotics to prevent secondary bacterial infections. The injured donkey was hospitalized at Bukombe sanctuary for rest, water, food and further medical care.

The prognosis of this donkey is excellent and he has recovered although is still at the Sanctuary.

TAHUCHA extends it sincere heartfelt thanks to our partner ANIMAL AID ABROAD for their unlimited and committed support for us in order to save the life of working donkeys in Bukombe district.
