Friendicoes January 2022 Report

The team at Friendicoes had a busy January with their equine program. Many cases of winter colic were seen, along with cellulitis, babesiosis, head wounds, leg wounds, eczma, and an eye worm (Setaria) requiring surgery to remove and prevent the horse from going blind.

There were a number of rescues as well. One pony was abandoned due to old age and arthritis, left on a garbage heap to fend for itself. Another pony with loss of vision in one eye was surrendered by its owner. And yet another pony who was suffering from malnutrition and hypothermia and who had been in a road accident was rescued and taken to the sanctuary for treatment, care and a safe home.
