TAHUCHA CASE STUDY OCTOBER 2022

During October, the Tanzania Humane Charity (TAHUCHA) team received an emergency call from a donkey owner at Mwalo village claiming that his working donkey has been cut with an axe in the right hip region. the injured donkey was brought to the sanctuary for further diagnosis and intervention.

The team at the sanctuary examined the donkey and found excessive bleeding from the fresh wound causing discomfort and pain for the donkey.

Treatment for the donkey included administering painkillers, controlling of excessive bleeding, general anesthesia induction, cleaning and suturing of the wound, and antibiotics were administered to prevent secondary bacterial infections.

The donkey was hospitalized at the sanctuary for three weeks while being watered, fed and resting until a full recovery was made.

The TAHUCHA team, in cooperation with village government and police, are investigating so as to identify the cruel person who carried out this inhumane act on this innocent donkey.

TAHUCHA extends its sincere acknowledgement to ANIMAL AID ABROAD for their keen assistance to improve welfare of working donkeys in Bukombe.
