New AAA partner Group Blindlove trust in South Africa - case study

AAA’s new partner group Blindlove Trust in South Africa have sent a report on a case study from September:

On September 6th we received a call from the local SPCA in Port Alfred. They had been contacted by the animal pound in nearby Alexandria, asking the SPCA to take/remove the donkeys as they needed the space for grazing. We rushed through and we found what looked like five pregnant mares, three stallions and four younger (yearlings). Since then we have been involved in endless red tape getting permission from the Municipality to release them into our care. It seems impounded animals by law have to be advertised within five days of being impounded, and then auctioned off. We want to avoid an auction at ALL costs as this is when they might catch the eye of some unscrupulous criminal and be sold into the donkey skin trade. After endless letters, and proving we have the funds, and the necessary transport we now finally have the direct contact of the Municpal Director and have been told to contact him directly! Once released into our care and settled, the animals will receive much needed hoof trims, the stallions will be gelded, and the mares will receive extra feed and care. The vets in Grahamstown also have a donation of dewormers for us and she will be here to run a thorough vet check on all of them. One poor stallion appears to have an injured stifle. The one mare has had her little foal about two weeks back. Thankfully mom and baby are healthy.

We are delighted to have this new partner group on board and we look forward to hearing more stories of their good work in the local area.
