Tanzania Humane Charity (TAHUCHA) - July Activity

On the 1st of July 2021, TAHUCHA met a working donkey and his owner on the way to a TAHUCHA mobile donkey clinic. The donkey was dull, had an abscess on its back and a visibly fresh wound on the right thigh due to the cruel and inhumane act of pouring hot water on the thigh. After the TAHUCHA clinic team examined the donkey, they realized that the donkey needed immediate relief. Therefore, the clinic team advised the owner to rest his donkey and allow the donkey to heal, also the donkey was given medication and his owner instructed on how to feed and water donkey. A few days later, the TAHUCHA team met up again with the owner and his donkey, reexamined the donkey, and realized that the donkey still had terrible wounds and was still dull. The team brought the donkey to the sanctuary and one week later, TAHUCHA are extremely happy to inform that the rescued donkey has made progress. Although the wounds on the back were healed and the donkey has made a visible recovery, the injuries on the right thigh are still healing. The TAHUCHA team continue to treat the donkey on a daily basis at the sanctuary, and has also provided water and feeds such as maize and grass.

During July 2021, TAHUCHA received 66 pupils and their teachers from the Nun’s primary school of Bukombe at our sanctuary for learning about donkey issues and humane handling of donkey, this is the first time for TAHUCHA sanctuary to have children for learning donkey issues.

Children and their teachers were happy to visits our sanctuary and gained a lot of knowledge about donkeys and this is life memorable event for us and children.
