Help in Suffering (HIS) Camel Rescue Centre - June Report

The HIS Camel Rescue Centre in Bassi treated a total of 643 animals during the month of June, including mostly camels, but including goats, dogs, cattle and buffalo. 29 animals are currently living at the shelter.

One case which is indicative of so many was that of an owner who came to the centre from neighbouring village, Damodarpura for treatment of the wounds on his camel caused by the saddle he was using. The camel was suffering from nose peg wounds, and saddle wounds on his back due to this saddle.

Fortunately the wound was not very deep so the team cleaned it aseptically, and antibiotics and painkillers were given. The owner was advised to mend the saddle with more padding, and to clean the wounds regularly.

It is disappointing to see that so many animals are still being used for work with unsuitable and inhumane equipment causing injury and distress.

Thank you to groups like HIS for continuing to battle this issue.
