Zambezi Working Donkey Project - October 2021 report

Following is the October report from the Zambezi Working Donkey Project:

“We spent a great deal of time and care treating the burn victims ‘Jack’ and Jenny’ who were brought to us last month. The wounds seemed to be healing ok, but on 22nd October we were saddened when Jenny took a turn for the worst and within a few hours she had passed away. We think that an infection had taken hold which unfortunately medication did not manage to treat. This was a very very sad day as she had suffered so much, and the team had really tried to help her. The male donkey and foal however are doing well and are now out grazing with the rest of the herd.

This month we treated and returned two donkeys who were brought to us and put on sick leave for wounds.

We were also happy to find lovely rescue homes for 4 of our long-term residents – Captain, Elephant, Mack and Zebra.

On 23rd October we held a large outreach in the village of Muchinga which was very well attended and we treated and dipped/dewormed 95 donkeys in one day, as well as fixing/replacing 15 harnesses.

We were joined at the Muchinga clinic and Maramba Farm workshop by a film crew who took some footage for us on a pro-bono basis to highlight the work we do – we look forward to seeing the finished edits and sharing this useful resource in due course.

Thank you so much to the donors of Animal Aid Abroad – your support is making a big impact on the lives of working donkeys here in Zambia.
