Tanzania Humane Charity (TAHUCHUA) - September Update

In early September 2021, TAHUCHA received emergency calls from donkey owners, and among the calls was one from Mr. Baraka of Magorofani. His concern was to seek immediate medical assistance for his donkey which was cut with a machete by unknown cruel people. The TAHUCHA team responded quickly to reach the area to clinically examine the donkey, almost 5 km away from Baraka‘s house.

The TAHUCHA team examined the donkey, observing severe bleeding below the hock joint and after close examination, they noticed that the superficial digital flexor tendon was cut and exposed. The TAHUCHA team immediately managed to control the excessive bleeding, and a pain killer was provided to the donkey, followed by a tetanus vaccine and then a surgical procedure to reposition the tendon was successfully performed. The donkey was referred to TAHUCHA donkey sanctuary for further medical attention and the prognosis of the donkey is encouraging, although his still lame at this time.

The donkey owner reported this case to police in order to conduct an investigation to people who did this cruelty and the TAHUCHA team also educated local people at Magorofani villages to avoid cruelty to donkeys and other animals.

The donkey is now under TAHUCHA sanctuary being treated, fed and watered.
