MAWO treating and training for animal welfare
The Meru Animal Welfare Organization (MAWO) have sent us a recap of their July activities during which they visited the village of Nazareth, where they carried out deworming, wound management, hoof trimming and proper harnessing demonstrations.
They treated over 115 donkeys during this visit. Here is what they said:
"The wounds that we see in Nazareth are sometimes due to narrow rope which was tied to the leg. Other wounds were caused due to poor cart harnessing but we're still in the process of training the community women on how to make and use the doughnut with the donkey when using carts. The women in the community are mostly responsible for the donkeys and their management compared to the men.
Our recommendation is to carry out more mobile clinics, but in addition to this, we continue with the animal welfare teaching, which we believe will help us to not treat same kind of wounds every time we go there and increase humanity in animal welfare.
The community which received this donation extends their gratitude and appreciates the service to their donkeys. MAWO is also giving thanks to AAA for working together in improving and raising awareness of animal welfare through education and practical training to the community. We do hope and look forward for more collaboration and more work so as to save lives of many more animals."
