Work continuing in Uganda despite Covid-19 restrictions
Animal Welfare Protection Organization (AWPO), in partnership with AAA, despite the COVID-19 pandemic, continues to give free examinations and treatments to working donkeys of the communities in the operational zone in Uganda.
During their working donkey mobile clinics, awareness, education and training on the safe and effective harnessing of donkeys was carried out where it was possible with continuing COVID-19 restrictions. COVID-19 has exposed and necessitated further assistance for these vulnerable animals and owners. Benefits from the interventions carried out by AWPO are multi-sectoral in nature and improve the lives of the working donkeys resulting in improvements in the livelihoods of their poor owners and communities while changing mindsets of school children and veterinary workers to be compassionate to the animals.
In the latest clinic, 167 working donkeys were treated for a range of health conditions.
