The Animal Husbandry unit kindly allowed the Friendicoes team to treat horses in sheds they had built. Here are some of the issues the Friendicoes vets treated:

Back and Saddle sore

Improper or inadequate padding, loose saddlery, hill track being steep and rocky with loose footing, leads to constant friction on the back and creation of sores.

Wounds were cleaned with antiseptics and dressed. Antibiotics, painkillers and tetanus vaccines were given to ease suffering and manage pain.

Abscesses

Lameness

Most common problems for equines which are typically caused by foot punctures (hoof abscess) because of rocks and muddy areas.

Pain killer and tetanus vaccine given, opened abscess dressed with antiseptics.

Indigestion/ Wormload

Indigestion, emaciated animals

Deworming done and supplements given

Eye injuries

Iron rod injuries to the eye or from materials being transported up for construction are common. Swelling of eyeball and eyelid.
