Working Donkey Program, Grahamstown, Eastern Cape, South Africa, February 2024 update

Thanks to your amazing heartfelt contributions to AAA, the February donkey outreach in Grahamstown took place as planned on Sat 24th February.

According to the team in Grahamstown, it was a wonderful, cheerful hustle and bustle of activity with 29 donkeys attending and this time they had 6 horses!

The team’s run-down on the outreach included their expressing how heartwarming it is for them to see just how enthusiastic the children are to get involved and eager to learn how to take better care of their donkeys!

We handed out another batch of 12 humane harnesses that were sewn up in January and February.

All donkeys were checked, and minor wounds were cleaned and treated. There were only one or two donkeys that had harness related wounds on their chests!

One horse had quite a bad saddle sore that we cleaned and treated.

All the animals that required deworming had this done, and all animals that attended received treatment for ticks and flies.

Hooves were picked out and trimmed where needed.

We handed out a couple of grooming brushes and everyone got busy grooming!

Its small things like, one horse had its bit in its mouth upside down.  We pointed the correct fitting of the bit and showed them how to attach a bridle correctly.

We also had another big round bale of grass that the kids eagerly opened and put into feed bags for the owners to take home with them. Everyone looked rather hot and dusty afterwards!

Without your wonderful kindness and generosity, these outreach sessions just wouldn’t be possible, to ensure the donkeys receive essential health and medical care, to help alleviate any pain or suffering they may be experiencing due to illness or wounds. Because of your incredible support, we are so pleased to announce that our next outreach is planned for 23rd March.
