VSPCA 2nd Quarterly Update - The Journey of 33 Rescued Buffalo and Horses Now Safe From Abuse

In VSPCA’s 2nd Quarterly update, both shelters were able to provide a safe home for a group of abused buffalo and horses. These animals had endured unimaginable suffering before being rescued by the dedicated team at VSPCA.

Now, they are thriving in their new homes, surrounded by love and care.

In Shelter 1, eight buffalo and one horse found solace in the tranquil surroundings of Marikavalasa. With each passing day, their wounds healed, both physical and emotional. The staff at Shelter 1 worked tirelessly to ensure that these animals received the best possible care, including regular check-ups, nutritious food, and plenty of space to roam freely.

Meanwhile, over at Kindness Farm in Koravada, a larger group of 24 buffalo and three horses frolicked in the lush green pastures. These animals had also been through harrowing experiences, but with the support of the VSPCA team, they were slowly learning to trust again. The caregivers at Kindness Farm knew each animal by name, showering them with attentive affection.

As the days turned into weeks, and the weeks into months, the animals at both shelters flourished. They gained weight, their coats shone, and their eyes sparkled with newfound happiness. The grant had truly made a difference in their lives, giving them a second chance at a peaceful existence.

The team at VSPCA expressed their deepest gratitude to Animal Aid Abroad supporters. Thanks to their support, the working animals at Shelter 1 and Kindness Farm can live out their days in comfort and contentment. The grant had not only saved lives but had also brought hope and joy to those who needed it most.

Emergency Response

In this quarter, our VSPCA Shelter 1 in Marikavalasa faced numerous challenges due to several natural calamities, including heavy rainfall and devastating floods. Despite the overwhelming circumstances, our dedicated staff members worked tirelessly to ensure the safety and well-being of our beloved animals.

As the floodwaters continued to rise, it became evident that our shelter was at risk of being completely submerged. With quick thinking and a sense of urgency, our team sprang into action, moving animals, medicines, and food to a safe location. It was a daunting task, but the well-being of our furry residents was our top priority.

Once the animals were safely relocated, our staff members took every precaution to safeguard their health and well-being. They closely monitored the living conditions, provided necessary vaccinations, and ensured they had access to clean water and nutritious food. Despite the challenges, our team remained steadfast in their commitment to caring for the animals in their charge.

In the aftermath of the natural disasters, our shelter faced many challenges, but it also served as a testament to the resilience and compassion of our staff members. Their unwavering dedication and determination to protect and care for the animals will forever be remembered and celebrated. Through their hard work and selflessness, they proved that even in the face of adversity, love and compassion always prevail.

Health Check-Ups

Once a month, the VSPCA shelters bustle with activity as the staff prepare for their regular health check-up programmes for all the animals in their care. A certified veterinarian arrives early, ready to examine each furry or feathered friend that calls the shelter home.

As the day progresses, animals of all shapes and sizes file into the examination room. Dogs wag their tails eagerly, cats purr in anticipation, and even the more timid creatures like rabbits and birds show a sense of trust in their human caretakers. The veterinarians carefully check each animal, ensuring they are healthy and happy.

Regular vaccinations are given to prevent the spread of harmful diseases, keeping the animals safe and protected. The staff at VSPCA believe in providing the best care possible for these deserving creatures, many of whom have faced neglect and mistreatment before finding refuge at the shelter.

In addition to caring for the animals in their shelters, the VSPCA has also rescued numerous working animals throughout the year. These animals were victims of illegal activities and abandonment, left to fend for themselves on the streets. Cows, buffalo, donkeys, horses, goats, pigs, and more now call the VSPCA their new home.

With love, patience, and dedication, the staff at VSPCA have transformed these once downtrodden creatures into happy, healthy beings. They roam free in lush pastures, playfully nuzzling each other and basking in the sun. The animals at VSPCA have found a new lease on life, thanks to the compassionate efforts of the shelter's team.

Every month, as the health check-up programmes come to an end, there is a sense of satisfaction in the air. The animals are thriving, their eyes shining with trust and contentment. The VSPCA shelters are not just a place of refuge; they are a home filled with love and care for all creatures, big and small.

VSPCA always fights against brutal acts and illegal activities. They rescued the buffalo from illegal transport and slaughterhouses, where they were abused, without food and water for days, with tied legs and mouths, thrown into small vans.

VSPCA believes that awareness and education play a significant role in bringing about change in public attitudes towards animal welfare, in addition to attending to emergencies and providing second chances. Many working animals sacrifice their well-being for human wants. Every working animal has the right to live happily.

Every human should respect and care for their working animals responsibly until they reach heaven, making them a part of the family. Humans and animals should benefit from each other with love and affection. Through this approach, while rescuing and providing care and treatment, we also strive to save lives and prevent cruelty by conducting on-site practical awareness and education programmes.

We thank VSPCA for their incredible dedication and compassion for animals. The world is becoming a better place thanks to our supporters for their donations that give a lifetime of love to these deserving animals as VSPCA paves a path of kindness for a future where all animals are treated equally.
