More Donkeys Rescued from Gaza With Your Support

Currently, donkeys in Gaza are some of the animals in most desperate need on the planet. Thanks to your support, our partner group Starting Over in Israel can continue to rescue these donkeys. They are helping many traumatised donkeys recover from their ordeals, allowing them to start afresh and receive all the love and care they deserve.

In January, Starting Over had 49 rescued donkeys living in their Hope Compound, which is funded by our amazing Animal Aid Abroad donors.

Two donkeys entered the Hope Compound:

Shandy

Shandy is an older jenny, approaching 30 years old. She arrived at the sanctuary with a chronic disorder of the fetlock joint, which causes her to limp. She has responded well to localised steroid injections and painkillers.

Amos

Amos is a donkey with laminitis (inflammation of the hoof). He was in the hospital section for a while but has improved enough to enter the sanctuary compound. He will continue treatment with painkillers and regular hoof trimming.

Two donkeys also left the Hope Compound in January:

Gloria

Gloria is an old jenny who is blind and weak and has a deformed back. She has been moved to the hospital area for more intensive treatment and close observation.

Ayala

Ayala moved to the compound for rehabilitated donkeys following successful treatment of a throat abscess.

Unfortunately, the team recently had to say goodbye to a donkey called Ricotta. She was blind and in pain due to an old pelvic fracture. Ricotta had trouble standing and, despite treatment with painkillers, she reached a point where it was too difficult for her to walk. Sadly, the decision was made to put her out of her misery.

Thank you so much again to our valued supporters. Your compassionate donations are being used to continue rescuing these vulnerable, injured and sick donkeys. Your loyal support allows Starting Over to provide proper care, love, treatment and safety for these special animals who have had such a hard life.
