LAZAWO July-Aug Update - Medical care and Treatment for Hundreds of Working Donkeys

The Lake Zone Animal Welfare Organisation (LAZAWO) made a big impact in Kinyang’erere village by holding a major clinic for donkeys. They cared for a total of 253 donkeys this month.

The team treated 233 donkeys for various conditions, including wounds, tick infestations, eye infections and colic.
Para-vet Steven continued to care for the donkeys after the clinic, personally checking on 125 of them and treating 20 new donkeys in nearby villages.

Key Accomplishments

The team's work in wound management was extensive, with each donkey receiving careful attention. Whether at the clinic or during home visits, wounds were dressed and treated using essential supplies like Albamycin wound spray, antibiotics, antiseptics, and more.

Every step taken by the LAZAWO team ensures that the donkeys can heal and not be in pain or suffer while working.

Vaccination: LAZAWO vaccinated 250 donkeys against rabies and tetanus, protecting them from these dangerous diseases.

Deworming: All 253 donkeys seen in August were dewormed to keep them healthy.

Additionally, the team took every opportunity to educate farmers on the proper handling and care of their donkeys, promoting animal welfare across the region.

Challenges and Hope for the Future

While the team’s work was well-received, they faced some challenges. Many farmers live far apart, making it hard to reach everyone without better transportation.

Additionally, the ongoing drought is forcing donkeys to travel long distances for water. LAZAWO hopes to provide a dedicated water trough for the donkeys to ease this burden.

Despite challenges, the LAZAWO team remains committed to improving the lives of donkeys and their communities and they’re grateful for the growing support from local farmers.

This month's successes highlight the incredible impact that compassion, dedication, and teamwork can achieve.

As they look ahead, the team is filled with hope and determination, knowing that all animals are treated with care and respect.

Thank you to our supporters for being a part of this journey, helping create a better future for working animals.
