Blind Love Cart Horse Nov Update - New Harnesses, Hoof Care and Inspiring Community Kindness

In Thaba'Nchu, the outreach team has been busy bringing vital care and treatment to local working horses thanks to your support. At each outreach event, detailed records are kept for every horse, including a body condition score out of 5 to monitor each horse's health.

Horses in need of deworming are treated with a special paste, and those affected by ticks and flies are sprayed to keep these pests at bay.

The team also examines and adjusts harnesses where possible, ensuring horses have better, safer fits. This month, six new humane harnesses were distributed, helping more horses work comfortably. Minor wounds are carefully cleaned and treated, and owners receive guidance on how to care for these wounds.

Some of these injuries, such as saddle sores, often happen when horses are stolen and ridden hard over the weekends. The team even attended to a few chafed spots caused by ill-fitting harnesses.

On the 16th and 26th of the month, all horses that attended received hoof trims and shoes fitted by the skilled farrier, Ntate 7, thanks to funding from Animal Kind International. During these sessions, owners also got hands-on lessons in hoof care, ensuring they feel confident and informed in maintaining their horses' hooves.

The team would like to give a special shoutout to one dedicated owner, Omphemetse, and his charming little horse, Mmaso. Omphemetse has shown exceptional commitment to caring for Mmaso and ensuring her harnesses are well-maintained, an inspiring example for other owners.

The outreach team extends heartfelt thanks to AAA and supporters for their generous backing of this program. This ongoing support allows them to continue making a difference for the working cart horses in Thaba'Nchu.
