Blind Love Cart Horse Aug Update - 82 Horses Cared for in August Thanks to Your Support

August in Thaba'Nchu was a month filled with dedication and care, as the Blind Love team continued their mission to bring relief and support to the horses and their owners.

An amazing total of 82 horses attended their outreaches!

The Agripreneur team conducted outreach sessions at the cart horse rank in Thaba'Nchu on the following dates: 3rd August, 10th August, 20th August, 24th August, and 26th August.

Thanks to the amazing support from our donors, Blind Lover were able to help both horses and their owners, reaching even more communities in need. From town centres to rural villages, your support is what makes this all possible and we’re so grateful.

On 11th August, they travelled to one of the outlying rural villages, Kommiesdrift. At rural outreaches like this, horse owners from surrounding areas are able to bring their horses, many of which have never had access to any primary healthcare or welfare checks before.

At each outreach, all horse and owner details are recorded. The horses are given a body condition score, treated for internal and external parasites (worms, ticks, and flies), and any minor injuries and wounds are cleaned and treated. Owners also receive advice on horse care.

The cart horses in town tend to work harder than those in the outlying areas, so they often see lower body condition scores, more harness-related injuries, and hoof issues. Harnesses are checked and adjusted where possible, and the team continues to distribute humane harnesses each month to those in need.

Carts are also inspected, and owners are advised on simple maintenance tasks, such as keeping tyres pumped. The team is also exploring the possibility of introducing some form of ID or number plates for the carts in the future, to facilitate easier identification in the streets.

The horses that attended the Kommiesdrift outreach were all in good condition, and the owners expressed their heartfelt thanks to the Agripreneur team for visiting and to AAA supporters for their much-needed donations and kindness.

The farrier outreach was postponed, but they plan to hold one each month starting from September 2024.
