Remember Badshah and Paulie? We Have Some Good News....
Readers of Animal Aid Abroad’s newsletters or social media may recall two recent, sad cases involving extremely neglected equines. One horse was discovered by Friendicoes, AAA’s partner group in India, when they were asked to treat a severe, maggot-ridden laceration on the horse’s leg. It quickly became apparent just how poor this horse’s condition was. He was weak, terribly malnourished and covered in wounds, yet still being forced to work as a wedding horse without adequate rest.
Although the Friendicoes’ team were keen to rescue and rehabilitate this horse, the owner initially refused to relinquish his animal. The team did what they could in terms of treating the horse’s wounds every day and giving him feed supplements and health tonics to aid recovery. The decision was made to offer the owner compensation and, eventually, the owner agreed to surrender his neglected horse into the care of Friendicoes.
We are thrilled to report that this neglected horse has now been rescued and taken to Friendicoes Sanctuary, where he is allowed to rest and is receiving the care and kindness he has never known previously. Friendicoes have sent Animal Aid Abroad further information about this horse, including that he is approximately 17 years old and has been named Badshah. Badshah is settling well into Friendicoes’ sanctuary in Gurgaon and is receiving all the care, food, shelter and veterinary treatment he deserves. Badshah has been given his very own rug to keep him warm during cold nights.
It is thanks to Animal Aid Abroad donors we were able to assist Friendicoes to compensate the owner and rescue Badshah from a life of hardship and suffering. A kind donor from South Australia has taken out full sponsorship for him, which means Badshah will never again be mistreated and will live out the rest of his days in safety and comfort.
In further good news, partner group Animal Nepal informed us that an equine called Paulie, who they recently rescued, has now been moved to their sanctuary in Dukuchhap. Paulie was found abandoned and roaming the streets alone in Bhakatapur, Nepal. She must have had a very rough life since she is lame, has one eye missing and suffers from chronic disease.
Paulie was initially placed in quarantine and underwent several tests, including liver function and complete blood count. Thankfully, she has been given the all clear and is now able to join the other rescued equines at Dukuchhap Animal Nepal Sanctuary!
Paulie has officially joined the Animal Aid Abroad Sponsorship Program and has already found partial-sponsorship with a very kind donor from South Australia. We still have four spots remaining for anyone interested in sponsoring this special equine.
