TAHUCHA - July 2023 Update

The Tanzania Humane Charity (TAHUCHA) is one of the partner groups which is able to be supported with the help of Animal Aid Abroad donors. TAHUCHA have sent us their report for July 2023:

During July 2023, the TAHUCHA team encountered the case of a donkey with a large wound on the right thigh area caused by beating using a sharp object from the donkey rider. This donkey was brought to the clinic at Mpandamlowa village.

The TAHUCHA team restrained the animal and properly examined, then cleaned the wound, and administered pain killers and antibiotics to prevent secondary bacterial infection.

The donkey was prescribed rest until full recovery, and the TAHUCHA team continued with follow up of this donkey until the wound reached the final stages of healing.

The donkey at the moment is fine, just with a scar of the wound, and is still under TAHUCHA care and monitoring. In Tanzania, there is an Animal Welfare Act which carries penalties for those who offend and as such, the owner was banned from using his donkey as a result of his cruelty.
