Help in Suffering Camel Rescue Centre July 2023 Report

Help in Suffering is longstanding partner group that benefits from the generous support given by AAA donors. They have sent us a report on some case studies from their Camel Rescue Centre (CRC) from July 2023.

Case-1

During July, a camel owner came to us at the village Patan. His camel was shaking his head frequently and not eating well. Dr. Jitendar examined and found that the camel was suffering from otitis. The CRC team cleaned the ear and applied antiseptic ointment. Antibiotics and painkillers were also given. For further ongoing treatment, oral medicines were also given.

 Case-2

In village Papad, there lives a camel herd owner who called us on the phone to advise that many of his camel calves were suffering from swelling of lips, eyelids and face. They could not eat, see or walk properly.

We understood that he was talking about a common viral disease in calves i.e. contagious ecthyma. Being contagious, most of the calves suffered. Although it was a viral infection which heals automatically, to prevent secondary infection and to relieve the animals from symptoms, we treated them medically with antibiotics, pain killers etc.

After two days the owner said that the calves had started eating well and the symptoms were reduced significantly.
