Help in Suffering - Camel Rescue Centre Report - October 2023

Help in Suffering (HIS) is based in India, and they utilise the financial support give by generous AAA donors to rescue, treat and give a safe home to working camels at their Camel Rescue Centre (CRC)

Following is a couple of case studies from their work during October.

Case-1

One day when we reached village Jatwara, one camel was sitting there and waiting for us. The owner Sitaram told us that the camel had been suffering from pain and was having difficulty walking.

After examining we found that there was an abscess near the left elbow of the camel. The abscess was surgically opened and cleaned under sedation. Appropriate painkillers and antibiotics were administered. The owner was advised to provide rest to the camel for a few days.

Case-2

At our site of village Heerawala, a camel owner Rakesh Kumar brought his camel as his camel was not passing faeces for two days and also suffering from abdominal colic. It was a case of impaction. Our team administered fluids and also gave laxative medicines. To provide temporary relief antispasmodic medicines were also given. We also gave the owner oral medicines for further use. He was advised to walk the camel on an uneven path.

After one day the owner made a call to us that the camel started passing faeces and showing some appetite.

Thank you to HIS for the work that they are doing to improve the health and welfare of working camels in their local area.
