Friendicoes Rescues for September

AAA partner group recently rescued a number of animals and brought them back to the shelter for the care they need.

One abandoned camel was rescued from a bus terminal, and when brought back to the shelter and inspected, it was found that the camel was very emaciated and with a skin condition. The camel is now getting cared for at the shelter.

Rescuing camels is an expensive exercise for Friendicoes as regular trucks cannot accommodate the large animals and a large truck must be hired. Despite this, Friendicoes have now rescued five camels in total.

Another of their rescues was of a pony who was abandoned on a Gurgaon highway. Another pony was rescued after being tied up overnight under a bridge.

The team have found that the number of large animals being abandoned has increased dramatically, and they believe this is partly due to an outbreak of glanders in equines and lumpy cow disease in bovines throughout northern India.

A mule was also rescued and was suffering from a hoof avulsion. The mule was rescued and brought to the shelter where he was quarantined until declared free of glanders to protect the other shelter residents, and is now receiving treatment.
