LAZAWO in Tanzania working on the ground to educate and treat
Partner group LAZAWO in Tanzania has sent us their September update:
"LAZAWO attended 217 donkeys in Butiama district for different welfare and health issues for which all these donkeys were examined, dewormed and treated for various conditions. 107 donkeys had wounds caused by tethering and beating, 13 donkeys with lameness due to tendon exhaustion, 37 donkeys with pneumonia as they were coughing, 4 donkeys with eye infection and 12 cases of impaction colic. We dewormed all 217 donkeys that we attended during September. Aside from the mobile vet clinic we did, we had a window of opportunity to talk and educate 98 donkey owners in the three wards of Buswahil, Bisumwa and Mirwa (a total of 7 villages were covered). The training sessions were conducted during the 4 clinics done and at home visiting after call. We educated the donkey owners on the basics of donkey care and welfare needs. A well construction underway, to be completed in a couple of days, is located in Mirwa village where clean water is a luxury. A well will help both animals and people to access clean and safe water. LAZAWO would like to extend it sincerely thanks to Animal Aid Abroad for sponsorship of mobile and outreach in Butiama."
